Identifying Courses
- - As courses are in the process of approval and programming, this spreadsheet is the best source for identifying core curriculum courses.
- - Contains all courses fully approved and programmed by the registrar. Shorter list than the spreadsheet.
- - This page briefly describes each Inquiry Pathway and provides a list of the associated courses.
- - This spreadsheet lists GenEd08 courses that have not (yet) been re-submitted for the Core Curriculum. The list will be updated dynamically but should be considered 95% accurate for Academic Year 25-26.
- When searching for approved courses, always start with the Core Curriculum approved course lists. For GenEd08 students, you can then use the crosswalk (linked below) to determine which GenEd08 category the course will satisfy.
Understanding the new Core
- GenEd08-to-Inquiry Core Crosswalk - This page indicates the general mapping of GenEd08 categories onto the new Inquiry Core Categories, and vice versa. Not all courses will perfectly follow these crosswalks, but they are accurate for the vast majority of courses.
Key Changes from GenEd08
- Reduction in total credit hours from 39 to 37
- Changes to WAC/SPAC
- WAC/SPAC courses cannot also be approved for a Core Curriculum category
- Reduce WAC requirement from 2 courses to 2 courses for students below 60 transfer credits
- Reduce WAC requirement to 1 course for students with 60+ transfer credits
- This change is retroactive to students staying on GenEd08 catalog rights.
- Removal of "from two departments" requirement for Arts & Humanities and Social Science Requirements.
- This change is retroactive to students staying on GenEd08 catalog rights.
- Removal of the "one course must be Math" requirement for Math/Quantitative Literacy requirement. GenEd08 students can now meet this requirement with two Quantitative & Formal Reasoning (QFR) courses.
- This change is retroactive to students staying on GenEd08 catalog rights
- Introduction to University Life (ASC 101 and equivalents), a 1-credit hour requirement is replaced with Inquiry Launch, a 3-credit hour requirement.
- Inquiry Launch will continue to be waived for transfer students but some inquiry launch courses may be used to satisfy major requirements (e.g., in engineering).
- The Data & Digital Literacy requirement replaces the second Social Science requirement in GenEd08
- The mathematics requirement ("Quantitative & Formal Reasoning" in the Inquiry Core) is a minimum of 3-credit hours, rather than the previous 6.
- Students may still complete a second Quantitative & Formal Reasoning course as part of their core requirement, in lieu of a Data & Digital Literacy course.
- The second Arts & Humanities course requirement from GenEd08 is now "Global Human Perspectives", which replaces the previous ALAAME requirement.
- There is no Social Science ALAAME equivalent
- A small number of GenEd08 courses will be changing their category due to their inclusion in the new core. This change will mean the "ICC to GenEd08" crosswalk is accurate for the courses, but it also means which category the course fulfills will vary with when the student completed it.
- Courses will retain their original GenED08 category approval through the end of Summer 25.
- Starting Fall 25, the courses will count in their new GenEd08 category that aligns with their Inquiry Core category.
- See the GenEd08-Inquiry Core Crosswalk page for the list of affected courses.
- Capstone courses are no longer a university requirement. Some programs will keep their capstone, while others will remove them. Program changes will be made through standard procedures. The result is that capstones will be under the purview of the applicable department, functioning like any other major requirement, and allowing programs to approve waivers or substitutions at their discretion.
- This also means programs may make changes retroactive to students staying on GenEd08 catalog rights
